“He has garnered a wealth of experience in multiplatform journalism and academia. His leadership skills will be a valuable addition to our diverse and cross-platform newsroom,” Naziru Mikail Abubakar, Group Executive Director, Digital & Editorial, said in the statement.

Also appointed to lead the investigations desk is Mrs Lami Sadiq, a former Jos and Kaduna bureau chief of the newspaper. Mrs Sadiq, an award-winning journalist, has conducted several investigations and won multiple grants for her stories and projects.

“An excellent media professional, Lami Sadiq brings years of editorial leadership and management experience to the role.

“She will play an integral role in the newspaper’s pursuit of great investigative stories this year and beyond,” Abubakar said.

Both Mr Gwadabe and Mrs Sadiq start their new roles immediately.

Gwadabe has a B.A in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano.

He then bagged an M.A. in Political Communications from the University of Leeds, UK, as a British Chevening Scholar in 2013 and a Ph.D. in Mass Communications from Bayero University Kano in 2019.

Gwadabe was the news editor at Freedom Radio Kano. He also worked with the BBC World Service (Hausa) as a broadcast and multimedia journalist.

He joined Bayero University Kano as an Assistant Lecturer in 2014 and was promoted to Lecturer II in 2016.

He took a one-year leave of absence to become the pioneer Project Manager of Radio Ndarason International in Maiduguri Nigeria. He retired from the university in October 2019.

Gwadabe has served as a media consultant and trainer for various international organisation.

Mrs Sadiq, the newly appointed  Group Investigations Editor, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Jos.

A fellow of the Dubawa Fact-Checking Project and the Wole Soyinka Centre For Investigative Journalism, she won the Plateau Journalist of the  Year Award in 2019. She is also a recipient of the Daily Trust Excellence Award.

Commending the achievements of Lami Sadiq, the group executive director said she would oversee a dedicated multiplatform investigation team with the responsibility of coordinating and delivering compelling and impactful investigative stories across the print, TV, digital, and radio platforms.

“We are glad to have Lami Sadiq mentor a vibrant and digitally focused team. Her team will collaborate with other staff within the Media Trust Group structure to develop and create content that meets the needs of our audiences across all platforms,” the statement added.
