An collision involving a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere Bridge on the Lagos-Abeokuta road killed nine people and injured seven more.

Mrs Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the event to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Okpe stated that the incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., was caused by speeding and route violations, resulting in a head-on collision between the truck, which lacked a registration number, and the bus, marked SMK 808 YD.

She indicated that a total of 17 people were involved: seven men, nine women, and one female child.

“Unfortunately, nine persons were recorded dead from the crash, comprising five men and four women,” she said.

The FRSC spokesperson said that the injured victims had been taken to the General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital.

She further stated that the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, cautioned motorists against route violations and speeding, noting the enormous dangers associated with the two offences.

He advised motorists to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
