Bandits Attack Police Division, Kills DCO, Burnt Station

Some Men carrying sphosticated weapons suspected to bandits have killed a Divisional Crime Officer, (DCO), DSP Shiru Musa and wounded many Police officers in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau, an indigene of the area, Musa Hamza said that the bandits were in large number and have invaded Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi local government around 05:00 am on Sunday.

Musa said when the bandits arrived Zurmi town, they went straight to the police station where they began to shoot sporadically, which resulted in the killing of a DCO and wounded other police officers then later set the police station on fire.

According to him, the bandits attacked the police station following the killing of three of their men and captured one by the vigilante group of the area which they expect that he is under police custody.

In a statement issued by the police command’s public relations officer ASP Yazid Abubakar said a group of armed men suspected to be bandits in large numbers wielding sophisticated weapons attacked Zurmi division and started shooting sporadically.

However, the Divisional Crime Officer DSP Shitu Musa paid the supreme prize as he died on the spot and two other police officers suffered gunshot wounds, while the bandits were retreating, they burnt down some houses and shops in the same area.

He said the Commissioner of Police Zamfara Command CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan has deployed adequate manpower to the area while reassuring people of the state that, the command under his leadership will continue to do its best in protecting lives and properties.

He then urged the good people of the state to assist the command with credible and timely information on the activities of criminals to salvage our dear state from all forms of criminality.
