Officials of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a popular TikToker known for her controversial social media content.
The Kano-based social influencer was said to have been arrested by the Sharia police, a local radio reported on Tuesday morning.
Hisbah Board sought to arrest at least six famous Tiktok skit makers for allegedly posting vulgar skit videos on their Tiktok and other social media accounts, an act that the board says contradicts its laws.
Lawal Ibrahim Fagge Hisbah’s spokesman confirmed the development to this news blog. He said Kunya would be charged to court after investigation.
The hunt for Kunya came barely a few month after the Commander-General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa invited all female Tiktokers in Kano to a session where the board offered to rehabilitate and empower them with businesses and scholarships.
At the meeting, Sheikh Daurawa admonished all TikTok and other social media entertainers to desist from posting content that is capable of encouraging immorality in society.
In February 2023, Kunya was remanded in prison custody for more than two weeks by a Shariah Court on charges that border on defamation of character, vulgarity, public nuisance and breach of public peace.
The was sooner discharged after the reprimand and commitment to turn a responsible life.
