The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has condemned the brutal attack on innocent voters in Kunchi/Tsanyawa State Assembly constituency in the ongoing rerun election.
In a statement by Kano state Chairman of the party, Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa and made available to journalists on Saturday, the NNPP also accused the opposition All Progressives Congress APC of perpetrating the attack.
INEC has suspended the rerun election in Kunchi/Tsanyawa constituency over the hijack of electoral materials resulting in violence.
In the statement, Dungurawa said, “We noticed we dismay, the sporadic attacks on the unsuspecting voters with the aim to disenfranchise them from exercising their civic rights.
“Since last night, we sighted the deployment of thousands of thugs hired by the APC to distract the election process” said Dr. Hashimu Dungurawa
The NNPP also appreciated the efforts of security forces for protecting the lives of people in the affected area.
In a swift reaction, APC state secretary Zakari Sarina who insisted there was no rerun election in Kano described NNPP’s comment as baseless.
Sarina who asked the NNPP chairman to bury his head in shame for misleading statement alleged that NNPP’s hired hoodlums were deployed across the polling units preventing voters legitimate right to vote.
” NNPP took over all the entire polling units in Kunchi/Tsanyawa and turned themselves into agents of APC, PDP and even denied INEC the statutory duty because they hijacked the materials and wrote results. Thank God the election has been canceled “. Sarina noted.
