Members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano, recently expressed willingness to dump the party, if reconciliation with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) failed to favor its members.
APC also expressed readiness to move with the acting National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in the event he decided to cross the carpet to another party.
Kano state Chairman Abdullahi Abbas dropped the hint on Friday while addressing party loyalists in Kano.
The meeting was organized by APC presidential campaign supporters groups to welcome the National Chairman back to Kano.
Abbas’s outburst came barely 24 hours after Ganduje openly extended invitation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and members of the NNPP to join the ruling APC.
Ganduje had clearly disclosed that the intention to warmly receive Governor Yusuf and other opposition members into the fold of APC was to ensure Kano return to one party system.
Although Ganduje was under presidential directive to reconcile with the leadership of the NNPP following the verdict of the Supreme Court, there are indications Governor Yusuf may eventually dislodge Ganduje and take over the party leadership.
According to Abbas, APC members in Kano have resolved to remain loyal to the leadership of Ganduje and would be ready to leave APC, if the National Chairman decides to leave.
In his words, Abbas said, ” Mr. chairman these are core party loyalists. They have pledged their unalloyed loyalty to you for better or worse. If you decide to leave APC they will follow suit. They are with you 100%”.
Earlier, Ganduje who had extended APC’s hands of fellowship to the opposition party however urged the NNPP to make up their minds before it is too late.
According to Ganduje, “We are calling on the NNPP, the rotten fruits to join APC if they want to save the fruits from spoilage. If you are talking about APC we are the leaders of APC. Not in local government, not in state, not in zones but national as a whole.
“If you are an APC membership card holder, you are a subordinate and follower of the national leader. The same thing with leaders in ward, state, and zonal levels. If you defect to APC today, you are our subordinate and follower. It is important for you to note this; a child of the household and a stranger are all under the care of the head of the house.” Ganduje added.
