The Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, revealed his plan to collaborate with some universities in areas of staff and student development.
He made this known when he received the Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK), and former Kano State Polytechnic Rector, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa who paid him a courtesy visit.
Speaking at the Rector’s office, Professor Kurawa, congratulated the Rector on his well-deserved appointment being the first alumnus to emerge as the Institution’s Rector.

However, He acknowledged the challenge associated with heading KSP and expressed readiness to be of support whenever the new Rector.
Kurawa said, “I know what it takes to lead Kano Polytechnic, I have done my possible best during my time as a Rector of the institution, and I’m still ready to continue to contribute my quota for its development”.
“My doors are always open for you, I’m ready to support and cooperate with you for the growth and development of the institution whenever the need arises”.
He further urged the management to put more emphasis on skills acquisition stressing that skill acquisition is the philosophical foundation upon which institutions like Kano Poly were created to reduce the unemployed youths roaming the streets.
He finally used the opportunity to extend his gratitude and appreciation to the entire KSP community for the solidarity they showed to him when he assumed office as the Vice Chancellor of YUMSUK.
He said, “I will never forget the mammoth of staff and students of Kano Poly who accompanied me when I assumed office at YUMSUK. I remained indebted to your kind gesture.”
He prayed to Almighty Allah to guide, protect, and give more strength to the Rector to achieve laudable success during his tenure.
While responding, Dr. Abubakar expressed delight with the visit which he described as a homecoming and it opened up a new chapter in the relationship between the two Institutions.
He expressed his enthusiasm to collaborate with YUMSUK.
The Rector described Prof. Kurawa as his brother who laid a solid foundation in KSP so much that the history of the institution will never forget him.
Speaking about collaboration, Dr. Abubakar said “We are planning to revive our Postgraduate Diplomas, and we need your university to absorb such students after graduation into Masters programs; this will help us to have more students and by extension provide educational opportunities to our community.”
According to Dr. Abubakar, the proposed synergy would also go a long way in realizing the staff development which would only be through the university system.
The Rector further reiterated his commitment to skills acquisition training, noting that various measures have been put in place to absorb thousands of teaming youths into the Polytechnic to pursue their academic career and as well skill acquisition training.
He hinted to the VC that part of his community services is the establishment of the Centre for Basic and Remedial Studies to cater to those who have deficiencies in O’Level or JAMB examinations.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor and his entourage for the visit, stressing that with the support of people like Prof. Kurawa, he would realize his dream of making Kano Poly an institution that operates within international best practices in service delivery and conducive teaching and learning environment.
