BUK Admits 200 Medical Students From Sudan

Bayero University Kano (BUK), has admitted about 200 medical students on transfer from Sudan, following the ongoing war in the country.

This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on Thursday in Kano during the occasion of the 4th edition of College of Health Sciences Foundation Day.

Abbas said that the university has established a new research center focusing on Advanced Occupational Health research and training.

He said the center will be a beacon of innovation, contributing to advancements in healthcare knowledge.

“As we gather to commemorate the establishment of our college in 2015, it is with immense pride that I reflect on the remarkable journey we’ve undertaken. Today, we celebrate not only our foundation but also the continuous progress and achievements that define the College of Health Sciences.”

“The College of Health Sciences plays a pivotal role in the mainstream university administration, proudly represented by our Deputy Vice-Chancellor. This integration ensures that our unique perspective and expertise contribute to the overall governance of the university.”

“Acknowledging the concerning trend of lecturers leaving the country, we have implemented strategies to enhance their salary packages. Our dedication to retaining and attracting top-tier educators is unwavering, ensuring the continued excellence of our academic programs.”

“We have welcomed over 200 transfer students from Sudan, enriching our academic community with diverse perspectives within the College of Health Sciences. This international collaboration strengthens our global reach and fosters a dynamic learning environment.”

“Our college plays a crucial role in international collaboration, working closely with entities such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO, and the World Bank. These partnerships contribute significantly to the global impact of our research and initiatives.”

“Our college hosts qualifying examinations for foreign-trained students in MBBS, Medical Lab Sciences, Dentistry, Radiography, and Nursing. This commitment to inclusivity and diversity enhances the global perspective within our academic community.”

“Our commitment remains steadfast to support the college in expanding lecture venues, increasing admissions quotas across all programs, improving staffing, constructing a new laboratory complex, and establishing a state-of-the-art clinical skills laboratory. Together, we forge ahead towards a future of excellence in healthcare education.”

In her welcome address, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the university, Professor Aisha Kuliya Gwarzo, said the college is involved in high-level national and international collaborations that have been instrumental in winning significant number of research grants worth millions of dollars, contributing to the growth of the college and the university.

She also expressed gratitude to everyone who has been a part of the journey, including students, staff, and well-wishers, and most especially the ever-supportive University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor.
