The Nigeria Police Force said it has uncovered plans to set ablaze Kano Government House by some unscrupulous persons over the ongoing appeal at the Supreme Court on the governorship tussle between the APC and the NNPP.

Reports says that Kano Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel disclosed this on Wednesday at a meeting with media executives in the state, ahead of the Supreme Court hearing of the appeal on Kano governorship scheduled for today in Abuja.

Gumel urged the media professionals to adequately inform the public about happenings with accuracy.

According to the CP, there ought not to be any tension in Kano because the matter is at the Supreme Court in Abuja and not in the state.

‘’Honestly, the peaceful coexistence we have been enjoying in the state had severally been attempted to be disrupted by some criminals but on most occasions, we have been able to prevent the situation,’’ Gumel said.

The Police Commissioner said in order not to heighten tension in the state, many criminal moves have been prevented without raising highbrow since the governorship election petition trial commenced.

‘’We have arrested criminals under the guise of protesting on political issue that embarked on looting and they have been arraigned before the court.’’

‘’I am using this medium to appeal to the politicians to abide by the peace agreement they signed in the interest of the people so as not to create chaos in the state.’’

‘’Presently, over 630 repentant criminals have surrendered to the command voluntarily due to our effort for them to turn a new leaf and they are undergoing rehabilitation for them to become useful citizens to the society.’’

”Out of the first set of over 50 repentant criminals we have rehabilitated, only one has gone back to crime as the others are genuinely gainfully useful to the society. This we can confirm because we monitor their activities.”

Gumel applauded the media for reporting the truth and responsible journalism.

During the interactive session, Editor in Chief, SOLACEBASE online newspaper, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, urged the Police to always maintain neutrality and act professionally in their conduct.

He called for more collaboration between the Police and media professionals in terms of information management for seamless reportage.

Kano Council Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Comrade Abbas Ibrahim charged the Police to facilitate training for crime and judiciary reporters to improve their knowledge and reportage to eradicate misrepresentation.
