The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the reopen of new the psychiatric hospital at Dorayi Babba Rehabilitation Centre.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, yesterday while addressing staff of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, formerly Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital at the conference hall of the Hospitals Management Board.
He said the action is necessary in order to alleviate the problems and challenges being faced by the patients, adding that report shows that patients spend almost a whole day without been attended to at the facility.

The Commissioner stated that in view of this, coupled with the fact that the staff of the hospital are still in the Kano state government payroll after seven months of taking over the facility by the federal government, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is dissatisfied with the lingering issues that affect both the staff and patients visiting the facility for medical attention.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Dr. Labaran explained that His Excellency has already instructed the Ministry of Works to begin upgrading works at the Dorayi Rehabilitation Centre to ensure full renovation of its building and structures as well as provide all the needed equipments.
The Commissioner further stated that the Hospitals Management Board has been directed to recall and redeploy all the 105 staff attached to neuropsychiatric hospital to the newly reopened one and henceforth start running clinical services, insisting that all the personnel must report to work on Monday.
He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his compassionate nature, will not allow lives of his people to be jeopardized in whatever way, stressing that the Governor, as he runs people oriented government, is determined to do all he could to provide favourable condition of care of the people of the state.
The Commissioner also commended the Governor for giving exceptional support to the health sector of the state that witnesses unprecedented transformation within a shortest period of time.
He then charged the staff to standstill to their responsibilities in order to meet up the demands of the patients as the ministry and the HMB will not condone laxity and negligence to duty from any worker.
