In a show of overwhelming support, crowds flooded the streets of Kano metropolis as they gathered Monday evening, to express solidarity with the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The occasion marked Yusuf’s first public appearance in the state since the recent ruling by the Appeal Court in Abuja, which affirmed the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to sack him.
Governor Yusuf, while on his way to commission a project at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, received an outpouring of support from the people.
Supporters, emerging from shops and houses, lined the streets, chanting songs, offering prayers, and expressing admiration for the former governor.
Yusuf commissioned the remodelled and equipped accident and emergency section of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital (MMSH).
Speaking, the governor said the remodelling and equipping the oldest hospital in the state became necessary looking at its dilapidated condition at the time he assumed office, a situation that need to be checked and corrected for the benefit of teeming populace that are visiting the facility.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said Alhaji Yusuf appreciated the work done in giving the section a facelift and modern equipment put in place for the enhanced medical care to patients with emergency cases and those who had accident, commended the officials of the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders who contributed in making the project a reality.
It would be recalled that the Appeal Court in Abuja had on Friday reaffirmed the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal that sacked Governor Yusuf and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the rightly elected governor of the state.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), had cross appealed the Election Petition Tribunal decision on whether Yusuf was a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) when he contested as governor.
