The Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has stressed the need for religious tolerance for peaceful co-existence.

Hamzat made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the 14th Emir of Kano and President-General, Jam’iyyatu Ansariddeen Attijaniyya, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, at Alausa, Lagos.

He noted that there is no superiority in the world as human beings are all equal before God.

He added that God Himself had made those diversities which was why there are different languages, among others.

Hamzat emphasized the need to use religious beliefs in changing the narrative of the country for the betterment of all.

According to him, religion plays a vital role in the lives of most Nigerians and this must be reflected in our daily activities.

“As citizens, we all have responsibilities towards the growth and development of the nation.

“Also, as citizens, we must do the right thing for the development of Nigeria and generations yet unborn.

“We must all come together irrespective of religion so that we can build a nation that we all can be proud of,” he said.

Earlier in his address, Sanusi said the essence of the visit was to sought the support of the Lagos State Government in hosting the Annual International Day (Maulid) in honour of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

According to him, special prayers for Nigeria will also be organized by the organization in Lagos.

“This is all about inclusiveness and the coming together of the whole country irrespective of tribe or part of the region one belongs.”

The President-General stated that the four-day event with the theme: “The Prophetic Solutions to the Questions of Humanity” would hold on Dec. 13 to Dec. 16 at the National Stadium, Surulere.

“This is one of the most revered events in the Islamic calendar and a day when the faithful come together to honour the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet and seek blessings from Allah.

“Over one million attendees are expected with revered sheikhs and guests from several countries like Senegal, Morocco, Mauritania, Ghana, Niger, Cameroun, and Egypt among others in attendance,” he said.

Sanusi called on the state government for their support and commitment towards the successful hosting of the event.

Responding, the deputy governor pledged the state government’s readiness to support the organization in the successful hosting of the event.
