At least 15 journalists have been killed in Israel and Palestine since the war caused by Hamas militant began on October 7, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said on Monday 16th October, 2023.
“15 journalists were confirmed dead: 11 Palestinian, three Israeli, and one Lebanese. 8 journalists were reported injured. 3 journalists were reported missing or detained,” the CPJ said on Monday.
While the committee said it cannot whether all of the journalists were covering the conflict at the time of their deaths, it noted that the journalists died while the war is ongoing.

According to Al jazeera, three journalists were killed on October 10 after going out to film a building in Gaza City about to be bombed. They were all standing at a safe distance, hundreds of metres from the stated target of the Hiji building, but the air attack instead hit a different building, much closer to them.
Speaking on the development, “CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians doing important work during times of crisis and must not be targeted by warring parties,” said Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator. “Journalists across the region are making great sacrifices to cover this heartbreaking conflict. All parties must take steps to ensure their safety.”
