A total of 278 students have qualified for the regional contest of the fourth nationwide Marine and Blue Economy Quiz competition organised by Ocean Ambassadors Foundation (OAF).
The Director of Internal Audit at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs Olamide Odusanya, said this at the virtual quiz competition on Thursday.
Odusanya said the 278 participants qualified out of 1,780 that registered for the competition.

“It is an honour and privilege to announce that out of the 1,780 students, 278 scored over 45 per cent and will proceed to the next regional contest.
“The goal is to win at every competition, hence, the participants are encouraged to apply the industry knowledge in the task at hand,” she said.
Odusanya stressed that the event should be used to foster national unity, stating Kwame Nkrumah’s quote: “The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart.”
Earlier, the President of OAF, Mrs Violet Williams, encouraged the regional participants to take the competition seriously.

Williams noted that several young maritime professionals had won scholarships via the competition.
She said the nation’s maritime sector hold immense potentials, but emphasised that young professionals had to be mentored and groomed in order to enable the coastal nation maximise its maritime opportunities. (NAN)
