The Kano State chapter of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has rewarded a commercial tricycle rider, Auwalu Salisu, with N100,000 for returning about N15 million left in his tricycle by a passenger in Kano.
The ACF Chairman, Dr Gwani Farouk, presented the cash gift to Auwalu Salisu in Kano on Tuesday.
Good Evening Nigeria reports that the owner of the money, Musa Hassan, appreciated appreciated Salisu and donated the sum of N400, 000 to the boy as a token of his appreciation.
Also, the 44 representatives in the Kano State House of Assembly said they will invite the boy and donate a portion of their salary to him.
Farouk, while presenting the cash prize, said that the tricyclist, from Haye in Nasarawa Council Area, had exhibited the ‘highest sense of honesty’ by returning the money to the Chadian passenger who forgot it in his tricycle, notwithstanding the economic challenges currently facing the country.

“It is not about the amount that ACF has decided to honour him but the highest form of honesty which he exhibited by returning the money to his passenger in spite of the economic challenges he is facing.
“ACF will not only donate money to him but also involve him in its activities to serve as a lesson and example to his friends and youths in the country,” he said.
Farouk said that Salihu had, by his action, demonstrated the fact that there was still hope in Nigerian youths, noting that he had elevated the image the state and that of Nigeria in the estimation of the world.
Salisu, a 22-year-old school dropout, had been receiving accolades from far and near for returning the money to the rightful owner on Saturday.
Salihu, in his remarks, said that most of his friends described him as a stupid person who would never be rich for returning such a huge sum to its owner.

“I have been mocked by some of my friends, including some elders in the community, for returning the money. Indeed, they described me as a senseless person who didn’t know what he was doing.
“But, I must say that I have no regret for my action. In fact, if I’m faced with the same situation in future, I will surely do the same.
“What those condemning my action have failed to realise is that we will account for all our doings before our Creator after our earthly sojourn,” he said.
