The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has declared the Mr Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election and subsequently removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office.
Governor Yusuf had contested the election under the banner of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and was initially declared the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the APC, dissatisfied with the election outcome, decided to pursue the matter at the tribunal.

The three-man panel, delivering judgement on Wednesday, ordered withdrawal of certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
The ruling comes after the tribunal deducted 165,663 votes from Gov Yusuf total as invalid votes, on grounds that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
More details on this development will be provided in subsequent reports.
