A non-governmental organisation, Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN), says it has empowered nine students from various schools across the country on mitigating the impact of climate change in their communities.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Mrs Foluso Gbadamosi, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
She said that the nine students emerged as the winners of the NGO’s second edition of the National Innovation Challenge.
Gbadamosi noted that the national innovation challenge and empowerment programme was conducted in partnership with a chemical company committed to environmental protection and Junior Achievement Worldwide (JAWW).
She explained that the national challenge showcased the efforts of students who were already exposed to the transformative climate change offered by JAWW.
“The students were selected after a meticulous process and they presented their groundbreaking ideas and solutions to climate challenges.

The initiative, she said, aims at amplifying the voices of young individuals in addressing the local impacts of climate change and innovative solutions to combat climate-related issues.
She said these outstanding students earned the prestigious opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Virtual Global Exchange Program.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Juliet Osonwa of Government Secondary School Elekehia, Rivers, thanked the NGO for the opportunity.
“We are happy that we won the national competition, and we urge the participating schools for the next national competition, to work passionately for the environment.” Osonwa he said. (NAN)
