A young man identified as Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila from Kano State has reported to the state government that his deceased father’s account continued to receive a salary from the government even after his passing in October 2022.
This was made known in a statement by Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Digital Media, on his verified X account.
Ibrahim said Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila, for returning the salary received through his dead father’s account to the government coffers.
Sumaila’s father died in October 2022 but the state government continued to pay his salary until August 2023.
However, the young man after noticing the situation returned the salary to the state government to notify it that his father died one year ago. He returned the sum of N328,115.75 to the government.

“To the governor’s satisfaction, Yusuf also requested to return the backlog of 328,115.75 to the government, and for which the governor personally invited him to his office to thank him.
“Remarking, the governor commended Yusuf for his remarkable gesture, urging other young people to emulate him and uphold the value of honesty.”
