Suspected electricity vandal electrocuted in Anambra

Residents of Amawbia in Awka South local government area of Anambra awoke to a sore sight on Monday morning, discovering that a man had been electrocuted to death at a local transformer.

According to information gathered by Nigerian Tribune, the victim, who remains unidentified, was part of a gang attempting to vandalize electrical wire installations at a transformer situated in front of a hotel in Amawbia.

The gang had taken advantage of a recent five-day power outage that affected major cities in Anambra.

However, tragedy struck when one of the gang members was in the process of disconnecting the wires. At approximately 12 midnight, the Enugu Electrical Distribution Center (EEDC) restored power, leading to the electrocution of the suspect.

The publication also reported that the gang members noticing that their colleague had been electrocuted took off with the wires they had already vandalised abandoning him.

While the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, is yet to officially confirm the incident, law enforcement officers from the Anambra Police Command were observed at the scene. However, the deceased remained unidentified.
