The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that a total of 25 military men lost their lives in Niger State.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, said this while giving breakdown of casualties resulting from the ambush of troops in Niger State and a subsequent helicopter crash on August 14, 2023.
The breakdown was given during the biweekly briefing of the Defence Media Operations on Thursday.
He affirmed that no fewer than 3 officers, 22 soldiers were killed in Niger State while 7 were wounded by terrorists.
Insurgents had ambushed troops in the Zungeru area of the state and some gallant troops of the Nigerian Army paid the supreme price.
Also, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter on a casualty evacuation mission crashed on Monday in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
He also said that the armed forces would investigate the cause of the crash and make the outcome of the investigation public as soon as it is completed.
He, however, vowed that no group could attack its troops and go scot-free, adding that 14 previously killed were in the jet during the crash.
“No group will strike on own troops without injurious consequences,�? he said.
Buba while commiserating with the families, colleagues and friends of the deceased officers said already troops have advanced to recover the bodies of the deceased soldiers.
