David Aderinokun, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District, has said that a N2 million holiday allowance for Nigerian senators is too small.
Aderinokun made this statement on his verified X handle on Tuesday
He said, “The 2m that was given to senators isn’t a big deal. It is even too small for a senator. What can a family man do with 2m Naira($2k). Why are we making it a big deal.
“But they shouldn’t have made it public. Making it public is a bit insensitive to plight of Nigerians,” he added.

The controversy arose after Senate President Godwill Akpabio informed senators during a special plenary session that the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Magaji Tambuwal, had transferred money to their individual bank accounts to facilitate their annual holiday.

Akpabio stated, “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly…,”
Realising what was at stake, a senator rushed to him to make him realise that he was on air.
In his response, Akpabio said, “I withdraw that statement. In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”
