At least four worshippers have reportedly died and several others injured after the Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna State collapsed during the observance of the Asr prayer on Friday
Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, confirmed the tragic event, stating that it occurred during the Asr prayer at around 4 pm.
GOOD EVENING NIGERIA learnt that the collapse happened even after a crack in the mosque’s wall had been identified a day earlier.
A survivor, Mallam Shehu Nagari, who was worshiping with victims in the Mosque, said the incident happened when they were in the second Sujud of Asr prayer.
He said all of a suddenly the affected portion of the mosque collapsed on the those sitting directly under it, as reported by The Sun News.
Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, confirmed the tragic event, stating that it occurred during the Asr prayer at around 4 pm.
He said ” We had earlier observed a crack on the wall of the mosque yesterday (Thursday) and was planning to deploy team of civil engineers to effect repairs, when this unfortunate incident happened.”
While condoling the family of the deceased, the Emir directed that people should pray outside the mosque pending the repairs.
Additionally, the Emir communicated that the funeral prayers for the deceased would take place at 8:30 pm on the same day within the premises of the Emir’s palace.
