The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled the results of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
The Council stated that it was able to surmount challenges of insecurity, and cash policy among others, via technological innovation that saw over 91 percent of candidates’ results released 44 days after the examination ended.
Addressing reporters at the national office of WAEC in Yaba, Lagos, the Head of Nigeria Office, Mr. Patrick Areghan, shared insights into the achievement and challenges faced during the examination process.
He stated, “With gratitude to God Almighty, I, on behalf of the Registrar, Management, and Staff of WAEC Nigeria, welcome you to this press briefing to announce the release of the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in 2023.”

Mr. Areghan continued, “Out of a total of 1,613,733 candidates who participated in the examination, the results of 262,803 candidates are currently being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.”
Highlighting the results, Mr. Areghan revealed that among the 1,613,733 candidates who took the examination, 1,361,608 candidates, equivalent to 84.38%, achieved credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects, regardless of English Language and Mathematics.
Additionally, 1,287,920 candidates, accounting for 79.81%, secured credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
