The Senate Committee of the Whole, under the Chairmanship of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has screened the immediate past Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency (Dr.) Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON, as a Ministerial nominee in President Tinubu’s Cabinet.
The exercise took place in the Hallowed Chambers of the 10th Senate. The Senate completed the screening process of Ex-Governor Bello Matawalle successfully asking him to “take a bow and go” as submitted by the unified voice of all the Senators who described Matawalle’s nomination as well-deserved, adding that he is a well respected political leader.
The Senate commended President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for nominating Matawalle as one of his cabinet members. The screening of Matawalle marked a very significant step in the formation of the new government under the able stewardship of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking before the Senate, former Governor of Zamfara State and Distinguished Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial Zone, His Excellency Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar (Shattiman Mafara) opined that Matawalle’s nomination for a ministerial position is a testament to his dedication and exceptional leadership qualities, which he exhibited in Zamfara State as a Governor.
“We, from Zamfara State have all agreed for the nomination of His Excellency, my brother, Bello Matawalle based on his track records of promoting peace and fostering development, which has garnered widespread acclaim, making him a suitable candidate for this crucial role in the Federal Executive Council”, Senator Yari submitted.
During the screening process, Matawalle impressed the Senate by reminding them of the critical roles he played during his three consecutive tenures as Nigeria’s lawmaker from 2003 to 2015. Honourable Matawalle stated that” I served under several committees and extensively utilized my knowledge of national issues for progress of the Nation”.
Honourable Matawalle emphasized his commitment to national unity, security, economic growth, and social welfare, which aligned with the core principles of the Tinubu-led administration.
Upon receiving unanimous endorsement from the Senate, His Excellency Bello Matawalle expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him. He promised to work tirelessly towards achieving the nation’s goals in addressing the challenges that lie ahead.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, further commended Matawalle’s credentials and stated that his nomination reflects the government’s interest and commitment to inclusivity and recognizing exceptional talents from all regions of Nation.
The formal swearing-in ceremony of successfully screened nominees is expected upon confirmation by the Senate. Subsequent upon that, Matawalle alongside other screened and confirmed Ministers will be sworn-in as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
During the Screening session, the Distinguished Senators pontificated that Matawalle’s presence in the cabinet is expected to further strengthen the Tinubu administration’s resolve to fulfill its promises and serve the interests of all Nigerians.
His Excellency Matawalle was accompanied by a large number of political associates from Zamfara and across the Nation. Families, friends, and well-wishers have been trooping the Matawalle’s Asokoro residence to pay their homage and congratulatory messages.
