A video has surfaced on social media showing a group of youths in Maiduguri burning a poster featuring the popular Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, famously known as Davido.
The incident was sparked by a controversial music video released by Logos Olori, an artist signed under Davido’s record label.
The video was initially shared on Davido’s Twitter page as part of a promotional campaign last Friday.
The music video featured individuals dressed in white attire engaging in prayers reminiscent of Muslim practices. However, the video took a contentious turn when the performers transitioned into dancing while reciting Quranic verses and engaging in acts of devotion.
The content of the video quickly drew attention, particularly from Muslims in the northern region of Nigeria, who accused the singer and his signee of disrespecting Islamic beliefs and practices.
Good Evening Nigeria had reported personalities like the former President Buhari’s ex-Media Aide, Bashir Ahmad and Kanywood star, Nuhu criticizing the video and suggesting Davido delete it.

Amidst mounting pressure, Good Evening Nigeria further reported Davido removed the controversial video from his social media platforms.
However, he did not issue an apology, which further fueled criticism and discontent.
The discontent presumably lead to the burning of Davido poster by some youths in Maiduguri.
A Twitter post by the Arewa influencer, Sarki_Sultan, documented the scene where the group of youths demonstrated their disapproval by setting the singer’s poster on fire.
In his plea to Davido, the influencer urged the singer to address the controversy with a genuine apology, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the concerns raised by the Muslim community.
The Davido poster burning video has further brewed controversy online, especially between the Muslim and Christian twitter communities.
