Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has established a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate certain actions taken by the previous administration led by Aminu Tambuwal.
The governor appointed retired Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Muazu Pindiga, to head the panel, emphasizing his commitment to impartiality and transparency. The commission has been given a two-month deadline to submit its findings.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the panel members, Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of adhering to the law, highlighting that accountability and transparency were key aspects of his campaign promises.
The establishment of the commission was a response to the public’s desire to understand how their resources were managed during the previous administration. He explained.
He said, “In order to let people know that I will not compromise, we decided to look for a very competent personality outside the state to be the chairman of the enquiry. That is why we go for a former Chief judge in far away Gombe State to be the chairman. I am sure you will all agree with me that all the members of this panel are men of impeccable character.”
Justice Pindiga told journalists after taking the oath that the panel would do its work without fear or favour.
He stated that the panel’s terms of reference encompass the examination of the circumstances surrounding the sale of government properties, the allocation of land, and the utilization of funds received for these transactions.
