Napoli’s police commissioner, Maurizio Improta, has lightheartedly issued a warning to goal-scoring sensation Victor Osimhen, stating that the player would be “arrested and handcuffed” if he were to join a new club against the wishes of passionate Parthenopean fans.
With two years remaining on his contract and no extension agreed upon yet, Napoli faces the possibility of losing the 24-year-old striker before the current transfer window comes to a close.
Osimhen’s impressive goal-scoring prowess played a pivotal role in securing Napoli’s first league title in 33 years last season, earning him a revered status among fans and teammates alike.
While discussions regarding a contract extension are set to resume when Osimhen returns for preseason this weekend, Police Commissioner Improta seems to be grappling with the idea that the Nigerian international is reluctant to sign a new contract, potentially indicating his desire to move on from the club this summer.
“Would I arrest Osimhen? No, for heaven’s sake. But I would put him in handcuffs to keep him at Napoli for life. I would tie him to the opponents’ goal, so as to always find him in a position close to goal,” Commissioner Improta jokingly remarked to Courier dello Sport.
Osimhen had 39 appearances for Napoli last season, a goal scoring record of 31 in all competition and 26 serie A goals, making him the top scorer in the league.
