Twenty people have been confirmed dead from the collapsed mine in the Galkago community in the Shiroro district of Niger state; while fourteen more people are still trapped and awaiting rescue. This is according to the commissioner of Police Niger State Command Shawulu Danmamman who visited the mine site on Wednesday. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has announced that power supply will be disconnected at the Lagos airport on June 5, to allow for maintenance work. At least 50 people have been reportedly trapped, one dead, and six others injured in a mining site collapse in the Farin Doki community near Erena in Shiroro local government area of Niger State. The mine reportedly collapsed on Monday, 3rd June, due to rainfall. The Central Bank of Nigeria has revoked the banking licence of Heritage Bank Plc, effective immediately. This decision was made due to the bank’s failure to improve its financial performance, posing a threat to financial stability. A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, has reportedly died in Egypt at the age of 61. According to an online medium, Premium Times, which cited ‘close associates,’ Lamorde died on Sunday in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment. The Katsina State Police Command has busted a four-man syndicate of fraudsters who specialised in swapping Point of Sale (POS) machines to empty victims’ accounts. Investigation revealed that the syndicate criminally swapped the POS machines of unsuspecting victims with fake ones that looked identical, and then criminally withdrew money from the victims’ accounts.
