A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded three teenagers – Terngu Tse, Akaa Samuel and Samuel Gawon – for alleged conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society. Tse, Samuel and Gawon, aged 19, 19 and 18, respectively, appeared before the Magistrate, Mrs Adah Jack, who did not take their pleas. Jack ordered that they should be kept at the Makurdi custodial facility pending conclusion of investigation in the case. She adjourned the case until Oct. 4 for mention. The Kwara Government on Wednesday commenced the evacuation of street beggars from the Ilorin metropolis. Speaking at one of the locations of the exercise, Mrs Kemi Afolashade, Kwara Commissioner for Social Development, said the areas affected are: Tipper Garage, Tanke, Offa Garage, Geri-Alimi and Challenge in Ilorin. She said that these were areas where the street beggars were domiciled, adding that the exercise was one of the core mandates of her ministry. Britain’s economic output has shrank by a larger-than-expected 0.5 per cent in July after a growth of 0.5 per cent in June, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Wednesday. Output of all three main sectors dropped in July, the ONS said, adding that services and construction sectors fell by 0.5 per cent, and production went down by 0.7 per cent. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says 13 states and 50 communities, mainly up North, are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding between Sept. 13 and 17. Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos Territorial Coordinator, NEMA, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos. Thousands of people killed in a devastating flood which wiped out parts of the port city of Derna in eastern Libya have been buried in mass graves. At least 2,300 people died when a tsunami-like river of floodwater swept through Derna on Sunday after a dam burst during Storm Daniel, even more an eastern Libya officials cited by local television estimated a toll above 5,000. The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has identified a funding gap of $9.2 billion in the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Nigeria.
