Popular Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has been appointed as the Commandant-General of the Kano Hisbah Board by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Daurawa announced the development in a video clip published on his official Facebook page on Monday. Daurawa will be heading the board for the third time after serving two terms during the administration of former Governor of the State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the first tenure of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Equity investors commence weekly trading with N951 billion value addition to their investments on the 1.839 million shares traded on Monday. Stock market capitalisation, which gauges the aggregate value of listed equities, opened at N34.226 trillion and closed the day’s trading at N35.177 trillion. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State has directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday over non-implementation of promotion arrears, unpaid academic allowances and poor working conditions. In a communique signed by the Chairman, Comrade Agada Franklin and General Secretary, Justin Ikirigo made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, the union said the decision to commence the strike was taken at an emergency congress over some issues that are detrimental to the members of the union.

Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has imposed an indefinite ban on metal scavenging activities across the entire 27 local government areas of the state. The governor’s ban aims to forestall continued killings of scavengers by Boko Haram insurgents at the outskirts of some local government areas and to stop theft of public and private property. Announcing the ban on Monday in Maiduguri, Governor Zulum said: “Within the last five years, many people were killed as a result of metal scavenging. Vigilantes in Gurungawa town in Kumbotso LGA of Kano State have arrested four men for allegedly stealing ducks and a dog. The vigilante commandant of the town, Abdulhamid Dan-Azumi, said that his men noticed the movement of the suspects around 3 am when dogs were barking, noting that the suspects killed one of the dogs. Nigeria currently accounts for 33 per cent of the total gas reserves in Africa, the Federal Government said on Monday. While disclosing this through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, it added that the gas reserves in Nigeria could last for about 94 years.
