Bauchi State House of Assembly has approved the request of the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir to appoint 20 political aides who will assist him in the running of the state before the appointment of commissioners. Hundreds of migrants from Senegal have gone missing while heading to the Canary Islands through the Atlantic Ocean. Coordinator for the humanitarian organisation Walking Borders, or ‘Caminando Fronteras’ in Spanish, Helena Maleno Garzon, reported that the boats left Senegal in late June. According to Ms Garzon, three boats left the southern town of Kafountine four days after another two, with each carrying roughly 200 people, on June 23 from the coastal city of Mbour in central Senegal. A total of six persons lost their lives on Tuesday in a multiple road accident in Enugu State, south-east Nigeria. The accident, which involved a crude oil tanker, an SUV, a Hiace bus and a fully-loaded truck, occurred along Ninth Mile-Ugwu Onyeama Road in the state. The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday described a purported list of ministerial nominees as mere speculation. Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who appeared on Channels Politics Today, said the party was still consulting and that the list was not ready. The 10th Senate began full business yesterday by announcing a plan to investigate the controversies surrounding petrol subsidy payments. The probe will be carried out by an ad hoc committee on downstream oil sector which is to be constituted. It summoned Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Mele Kyari to brief it on Federal Government’s under-recoveries. A 30-year-old man identified simply as David, who is said to be under the influence of hard drugs, has allegedly stabbed a cleric, Akeem Ojiwusi, to death around Odekeye close, in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State. The Borno State government has approved the release of N62 million as payment for scholarships for students in law schools pursuing their various programs in different institutions in the country. The Executive Secretary, Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr Bala Isa said at a press briefing in Maiduguri on Tuesday that the payment will also cover both undergraduate and master’s students outside the country. The police in Rivers State, South-south Nigeria, said they have arrested some of their officers for allegedly assaulting a man in the state. The alleged assault is captured in a video which has gone viral on social media. In the 30-seconds video, the armed officers are seen dragging a young man towards a white Toyota pickup truck, while the man struggles to resist the officers. It is unclear what led to the assault.
