By DAILY NEWS 24 The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has extended the maximum tenure of Managing Directors/Chief Executives (MD/CEOs) and Deputy Managing Directors/Executive Directors (DMDs/EDs) of banks from 10 to 12 years. The CBN issued a circular titled “Corporate Governance Guidelines for Commercial, Merchant, Non-interest and Payment Service Banks in Nigeria” on July 13, 2023, announcing the changes. The circular, signed by CBN Director Chibuzo Efobi, was addressed to commercial, merchant, non-interest, Payment Service Banks, and Financial Holding Companies (FHCs). Detectives in Ondo State have nabbed a food seller and house wife, Mrs Esther Godwin, for allegedly pouring hot water on a nursing mother, Samuel Endurance, over an allegation of having illicit affairs with her husband. Mrs Godwin was arrested at the weekend after she lured the victim, Samuel, to her house in the Olofin community of Idanre in the Idanre Local Council Area of the state. THE NATION NEWS The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has upgraded the eNaira by introducing a chip-enabled Near Field Communication (NFC) device into the eNaira. The NFC feature will enhance the use of the eNaira by Nigerians without smart phones or internet access. NFC is a short-range high frequency wireless communication technology that enables the exchange of data between devices of over a 10 cm distance. With the introduction of NFC, eNaira wallet owners can transact financial businesses with little or no human contact with the aid of tags attached to their phones. Rising food and energy costs combined with currency depreciation has pushed Nigeria’s inflation rate to the highest point in 18 years. Inflation rate, which stood at 22.41 per cent in May, rose for the sixth consecutive month to around 24 per cent in June, according to average projection by many analysts.
