A British court has ordered Bhadresh Gohil, an ex-lawyer of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, to pay £28 million for his involvement in concealing funds gained illegally. Gohil, an Indian lawyer, was previously convicted in 2010 on 13 counts of money laundering and other offenses related to his role in helping Ibori hide the proceeds from criminal activities during Ibori’s tenure as governor of the oil-rich state from 1999 to 2007. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Monday raised the country’s Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 18.5 per cent to 18.75 per cent. The Acting Governor of the CBN, Mr Folashodun Shonubi made this known on Tuesday, while presenting the communique from the MPC meeting. The Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it secured the conviction of 68 persons for various corrupt practices in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states. The Borno State Police Command has taken ten individuals into custody in connection with the alleged stabbing and killing of a police officer assigned to the command’s Crack Unit.
