1 min read

The ongoing crisis within the Rivers State government escalated on Monday as reports emerged that the State Assembly had signed an impeachment notice against Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

The session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule, and attended by a significant number of members, saw the suspension of the Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie, and those who remained loyal to the governor.

According to Vanguard, the explosion that occurred within the Assembly premises on Sunday night was suspected to be a tactic to prevent lawmakers from accessing the Assembly on Monday.

As early as 7 a.m., some lawmakers managed to enter the House and immediately began plenary proceedings, during which they collectively signed the impeachment notice against the governor.

Meanwhile, armed policemen have cordoned off the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
