The Court of Appeal in Owerri has declared Lamido Apapa as the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party, ousting Julius Abure from the position.
The court’s verdict also instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly acknowledge and publish the names of all governorship candidates endorsed by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.
Additionally, the court invalidated the governorship candidature of Senator Athan Achonu of Imo State and others affiliated with the Abure-led faction of the LP.
It could be recalled that in May, Apapa and his supporters have a face off with Abure-led LP national executives during a tribunal sitting, which led to assault on Apapa by alleged APC supporters.
The bone of contention fell on who holds the national chairmanship of LP between Apapa and Abure.
However on August 14, a Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, Edo State capital, affirmed Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
