The Kano State Executive Council has given the green light for the disbursement of N700 million to cover the tuition fees of 7,000 indigenous students studying at Bayero University Kano (BUK).
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf shared this development via his official Facebook page..
This decision follows previous efforts by the Kano State Government and BUK authorities to address concerns surrounding a significant increase in school fees.
Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, the Commissioner for Higher Education, engaged with BUK to explore ways of mitigating the more than 100 percent hike in fees, which had raised concerns about potential student dropouts.
In response, the university had introduced measures to alleviate the fee increment.
This included instituting a scholarship program funded through contributions from philanthropists, introducing a Interest-free loan for students and extending the registration period by a month to facilitate fee payments.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf took to Facebook to announce the N700 million allocation for the payment of fees for Kano students at BUK.
