The federal government has appointed 11 new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and medical directors to oversee tertiary health facilities across the nation.
According to a statement released on Friday by Patricia Deworitshe, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health, the appointed CMDs include Prof Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce for FMC Hong in Adamawa, Prof Issa Baba Awoye for the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Buddo-Egba, Kwara, Dr Umar Faruk Abdumajid for FMC Daura in Katsina and Dr Muhammad Shittu Adamu for FMC Wase in Plateau.
Others include, Prof Shuaibu Jauro Yahya for FMC Mubi in Adamawa, Dr Mercy Anugwu for FMC Onitsha in Anambra, Prof Auwalu Sani Salihu for the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Dawanau Kano, and Prof Rufai Ahmed, who is appointed as the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria-MRTB.
Additionally, the new appointments include Prof Mangwa J. Kortar for FMC Makurdi in Benue, Prof Robinson Chukwudi Onoh for Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi, and Dr Nurudeen Isa for the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Dala, Kano.

Presenting the letters of appointment to them at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Kachollom Daju, said the appointments were for an initial four-year tenure with effect from August 1.
Daju enjoined them to bring the skills and wealth of experience they acquired over the years to bear in their various facilities, noting that their performance would determine the renewal of their tenure.
