A tragic midnight fire in Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano State, has claimed the lives of a husband and wife, the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed.
The victims, identified as 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and 52-year-old Fatima Uba, were caught in the blaze that engulfed their bungalow, said Hassan Muhammad, the Fire Service Director, in a statement issued by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
According to Muhammad, the incident occurred at midnight on Thursday, Dec. 12. “We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar, and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 a.m.,” he said.
The fire, which consumed two rooms in the 50-by-25-foot bungalow, trapped the couple, who were later rescued unconscious with burns on parts of their bodies. Despite efforts to save them, both victims were pronounced dead.
Their bodies were handed over to Muhammad Rayyanu, the Ward Head of Rangaza in Ungogo Local Government Area.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Muhammad noted. He also urged the public to adhere to safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
