Comrade Alhassan Yahaya has been elected as the new president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Alhassan, the immediate past National Deputy President of the union, defeated his closest rival, incumbent Treasurer Dele Atunbi, at the 8th Triennial Delegate Conference of NUJ, held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Alhassan, a former Gombe Council Chairman of NUJ scored 436 votes, Atunbi had 97 while Mohammed Garba scored 39 votes.
Also, a Deputy Director with Radio Nigeria, Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde emerged as the Deputy Nationa President of the union unopposed while Mrs Ronke Afebioye Samo from Ekiti State Council was re-elected unopposed as the Vice President Zone B.

Other executive members of the union were elected unopposed.
