Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has briefed President Bola Tinubu on his special assignment to the North-West to checkmate the activities of criminals in the region.
The important meeting held at the office of the President followed Dr Matawalle’s recent trips to Sokoto, where he has been spearheading stringent efforts to restore peace in the region, which has suffered a lot for over a decade due to rampant banditry, kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling. Report says that the outcomes of this high-level meeting could shape the future of security strategies across Nigeria, making it a critical moment in the ongoing battle against banditry and violence in the northwest.
Though details of their discussions remained confidential, it is generally believed that the main reason of the meeting focused majorly on the need to brief Mr. President on the achievements recorded during the implementation of his orders. It is equally believed that escalating insecurity in the northwest and broader national safety concerns informed the visit. Similarly, in a decisive move under President Tinubu’s directives, Matawalle previously mobilized all the service chiefs to Sokoto, resulting in successful operations and elimination of bandits and their groups, with numerous militants reportedly neutralized.
