Kano state government has ordered immediate crackdown of any group advocating for and or, promoting any sexual agenda inimical to moral and religious standards.
The directive came amid claims and counter claims between Federal government and pressure groups on the inclusion of rights of Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) in the Samoa partnership agreement Nigeria signed in 28th June, 2024.
Although, the Federal government has denied the media report that claimed the endorsement of LGBTQ was an attempt by the President Tinubu’s administration to receive $150 billion grant from the West, Kano has vowed to flush out any attempt to crave agitation in favor of rights of immorality in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, who dropped the hint in Kano revealed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed it’s Hisbah Board to swing in surveillance and arrest any advocate or groups of promoters.
According to Daytime, government will not accept any agreement that promotes the activities of gays and lesbians, as it contravenes the norms and values of the people of Kano.
The commissioner disclosed that government has received citizens’ concerns since the controversy on Samoa agreement hit front banner adding that Governor Yusuf has ordered Hisbah to investigate and take action against any trace of LGBTQ in the state.
“I spoke with the governor, and he expressed his disapproval of the said agreement, even though it has not yet been confirmed. He assured that there is no room for LGBT activities in Kano,” Dantiye said.
“As you know, 98% of Kano’s population are Muslims by faith, and our religion is against this immorality, so we can’t accept it.
“We also discussed this with the governor, and he directed Hisbah to investigate and crack down on them. We will take legal action as appropriate.” Dantiye noted.
