We ‘ll Unravel Those Behind Political Violence, Missing Children In Kano’, Justice Yusuf Vows

Chairman, Kano Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Political Violence and Cases of Missing Persons, Justice Zuwaira Yusuf Monday, has vowed to unravel those behind political killings and missing of children in the state.

Besides, Justice Yusuf reminded that despite commitment to discharge mandate as entrusted by the state government, the commission will not victimize any individual or group of persons.

The leader of the commission gave the notice during it’s inaugural sitting at the High Court of Justice complex, Miller Road, where he pledged to deliver diligently and in fairness.

Justice Zuwaira further extended invitation to individuals, groups, Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS) as well as victims and relatives of the victims of political violence, and missing persons to submit memoranda or petition to the Commission to aid the discharge of it duties.

According to her, “I would also like to further assure the people of Kano State that this Commission will discharge its assigned mandates diligently, fairly, dispassionately and without fear or ill-will. The essence of the Commission is to find out the causes and factors that

instigate political violence in the State.

“Similarly, the Commission is mandated

to investigate the rampant cases of missing persons and to make

recommendations for enduring solutions to these 2 issues. I will also assure the general public that the Commission is there to serve them, that their petitions would be looked into and where necessary would be called

upon to give oral evidence”.

The serving Justice of the state high court said the commission has it terms of reference to include finding the root causes of the Political and other forms of violence in Kano State. To identify areas where violence associated with the 2015, 2019 and 2023 general elections occurred in Kano State and also to identify sponsors and perpetrators of political and other forms of violence during and in-between elections in Kano State.

“Similarly, to identify all missing persons in the State and determine the

circumstances as well as the immediate and remote causes of their

missing. To identify victims of all forms of violence including politically

motivated, State-sponsored, etc associated with the 2015, 2019 and

2023 General elections and assess the damage/losses of lives and

properties during the period”.

The Commission Chairperson, however appealed to the media to discharge their duties with utmost professionality, be fair and factual in order to help the Commission achieve its mandates.
