The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, made his presence felt at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, on Tuesday as the hearing of appeals challenging the judgment of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal commenced.
On September 25, 2023, the Election Petitions Tribunal, in a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Mikail Abdullahi on behalf of the three-man panel, dismissed two petitions and upheld the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Obafemi Hamzat.

The first petition was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, and the second by the Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Rhodes-Vivour.
The tribunal held that the PDP’s petition lacked merit and subsequently affirmed the election and return of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as the duly elected governor of Lagos State.
“I affirm the election and return of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as the duly elected governor of Lagos state.”
