The Federal Government and organised labour are scheduled to meet on Monday (Today), October 30, to evaluate the progress made in the 15-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that led to the suspension of the planned indefinite strike on October 3 by organised labour, according to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The meeting, at the request of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, aims to assess the government’s achievements in the last 30 days since the signing of the MoU.
Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, emphasized that the labour group would not attend any meeting where the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, is present.

Last week, the NLC accused the minister of attempting to undermine the agreement reached with the federal government.
Part of the agreement with the government involved resolving the crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), with the NLC claiming that the minister was taking sides with a faction of the NURTW leadership, leading to tensions between the minister and the NLC.
Ajaero stated, “For tomorrow’s meeting, the invitation we received was from the office of the chief of staff to the president, and that is where previous meetings have been held.
“The current Minister of Labour we have has no place in the current industrial relations we are having in Nigeria. Tomorrow we will hear from them and see how it goes.”
