In a recent development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced the appointment of Senator Lola Ashiru, representing the APC from Kwara, as the new Deputy Leader of the Senate.
The announcement was made at the start of the plenary session on Wednesday.
Ashiru assumes this role following the departure of Senator Dave Umahi, who now serves as the Minister of Works.

Senator Umahi had previously held the position of Deputy Leader of the Senate.
Ashiru was the deputy Chief Whip of the Senate.
Akpabio also named Senator Peter Onyekachi (APC, Ebonyi) to replace Ashiru as deputy chief whip.
