Nigerian singer, Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has taken to social media to criticize certain female skit makers for their portrayal of African mothers at parties.
In a video captioned ‘POV: You go to dinner dressed like African mothers with your friends,’ several female Nigerian skit makers, including Ashmusy and Nons_Miraj, were depicted in a restaurant, eating voraciously.
The video seemingly aimed to portray the behavior of African mothers when they go out for social gatherings.
Reacting to the skit, Simi, who is a mother herself and the wife of music star Adekunle Gold, expressed her displeasure with the video through her social media account.
She remarked that the video made her angry and questioned its portrayal of African mothers, stating that she doesn’t know anyone’s mother who behaves in the manner depicted. Simi also advised the skit makers to improve the quality of their humor.

Simi wrote, “That video about African moms where they looked a mess and were eating like dogs made me mad. I don’t know anybody’s mom that acts like that. Y’all get your jokes together.”(sic).
The 35-year-old singer started her music career as a gospel artist and released her debut studio album, titled “Ogaju,” in 2008. She gained wider recognition in 2014 with the release of her song “Tiff,” which was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015.
Simi signed with X3M Music in 2014 but left the label in May 2019 when her contract expired.
