The Dahiru Mangal Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has begun screening for its first-quarter free eye care services and surgeries in Katsina.

Mr Hussaini Kabir, a member of the foundation’s board of trustees, disclosed this during the inauguration of the screening on Tuesday at the Eye Centre in Katsina.

Kabir stated that the initiative was part of the foundation’s social responsibility efforts to bridge the healthcare gap and improve access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations in the state.

According to Kabir, the exercise includes medications, medicated glasses, and surgeries for individuals suffering from vision impairments.

“This initiative is expected to benefit 1,500 people, ensuring that those who lack access to specialised eye care receive the treatment they need,” he said.

He also reiterated the foundation’s commitment to removing financial barriers to healthcare.

“Our objective is to alleviate the burden of healthcare costs on the most vulnerable members of society, as many struggle to meet basic needs, let alone afford medical treatment,” Kabir added.

He further called on other organisations and philanthropists to support similar initiatives, emphasising the need for collective action to address healthcare challenges in underserved communities.

He said that the initiative had received commendations from healthcare professionals and beneficiaries, who have called on the government and wealthy individuals to emulate the foundation’s efforts.

Malam Ibrahim Lawal-Rabo, a nurse, commended Dahiru Mangal for his philanthropic contributions to public health.

He emphasised the transformative impact of the foundation’s interventions, particularly for individuals who would otherwise be unable to access critical medical care.
