Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo, wife of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, has inaugurated a two-day conference to promote knowledge exchange on Hausa culture and economic sustainability in the 21st century. The event, titled “Real Al’adun Hausawa da Dorewar Tattalin Arziki a Karni na Ashirin da Daya,” focuses on empowering women and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Hausa people.
In her opening remarks, Hajiya Amina emphasized the need to address societal challenges through cultural revival and economic empowerment. “We organized this conference to help eliminate some of the societal ills we face today. Our goal is to empower women and showcase to the world the richness of our culture,” she stated. She also highlighted plans to identify women who would receive skills training and financial support to establish their businesses.
The conference features presentations from Islamic scholars (Ulamas) and traditional leaders, who were invited to discuss the positive aspects of Hausa culture. “We invited our Ulamas and traditional leaders to present papers highlighting our values and good traditions,” Hajiya Amina noted.

Expressing concern over the erosion of cultural values, she lamented that younger generations are losing fluency in the Hausa language, often mixing it with English, a trend she referred to as Enghausa. She also highlighted the abandonment of traditional Hausa foods such as shaye shaye da romo, wainar gero, yar tsala, and shashshaka.
Hajiya Amina called on Kannywood actors to use their films to promote Hausa culture and encouraged scholars to deliberate on whether Hausa should be considered a language or an ethnic identity. She expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for supporting the conference.

Bashir Dalhatu, former Minister of Power and Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, also addressed the gathering, lamenting the neglect of cultural practices and environmental cleanliness. “We have abandoned our culture. Even basic cleanliness is ignored unless the government enforces it. We must be dedicated to reviving our traditions through initiatives like this,” he stated.
Yahaya Nuhu, representing the Emir of Daura, His Highness Faruk Umar Faruk, reaffirmed the Daura Emirate’s full support for the initiative. “Bahaushe is known for dedication and hard work. Whenever our support is needed, we will be there. May politics never interfere with this noble cause,” he remarked.
The conference aims to foster a deeper understanding of Hausa culture and promote sustainable economic practices, ensuring that the rich heritage of the Hausa people is preserved for future generations.
