President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Prof. Salisu Shehu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The announcement was made today in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Prof. Shehu, an academic in educational and human psychology, has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s education sector.

He played a role in establishing the School of Continuing Education at Bayero University, Kano, and currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqamah University, Kano.
The statement quoted the President as saying, “The President believes the appointees’ experience and track record will bring a new sense of commitment, progress, and positive outcomes to fulfil Nigerians’ expectations of their respective organisations.”

Prof. Shehu’s appointment is part of a series of appointments in educational and developmental agencies.
Other appointees include Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu as the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri as the National Coordinator of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).
