A fatal auto crash on the Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe State has claimed the lives of no fewer than 12 people. The accident occurred late Tuesday night, December 3, 2024, near Chelluri village.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Yobe, Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. According to the report, a Howo truck collided with a bus carrying passengers, bearing registration number BAU 124 YF.
The impact of the crash caused the bus to burst into flames, resulting in the tragic deaths of all 12 passengers aboard.
The FRSC has launched an investigation into the incident and is working to identify the victims.
“Preliminary investigation revealed road obstruction by the HOWO truck as the immediate cause, while excessive speed and overload by the driver of the bus (Sharan), as the remote causes of the road crash,” Yilzoom said.
He advised motorists to avoid night journeys, especially during the harmattan, noting that poor visibility was a major cause of accidents in the season.
